23andMe, một công ty công nghệ sinh học trực tuyến có phần góp vốn của Google, hôm thứ hai vừa cho ra mắt dịch vụ kiểm tra DNA trị giá 999USD.

Chương trình này cho phép người dùng đăng nhập vào hệ thống kiểm tra DNA nước bọt trực tuyến và nhận lại kết quả bằng thư. 4 đến 6 tuần sau, kết quả được công bố trực tuyến, từ đó người dùng nhận biết các đặc điểm được kế thừa và tổ tiên của mình, hơn nữa có thể cho phép các chuyên gia dự báo những nguy cơ về bệnh tật của họ.

Được đặt tên theo 23 cặp nhiễm sắc thế tạo nên bộ gen của con người, 23andMe cho biết sẽ trưng bày khoảng hơn nửa triệu điểm dữ liệu trong bộ gen của từng người theo một cách thức mà họ có thể nhận biết và hiểu được. “Hãy so sánh hệ thống gen của bạn với người thân và bạn bè” - 23andMe dự định khi cơ sở dữ liệu của công ty đã lớn mạnh, người dùng có thể lựa chọn việc tham gia nghiên cứu khoa học giúp nhà nghiên cứu nhận biết các kết quả y học như ai là người sẽ có nguy cơ bị phản ứng thuốc hoặc những người như thế nào có nhiều khả năng phản ứng tốt với các phương pháp điều trị bệnh ung thư,…

Đối với nhiều người, bảo mật thông tin về gen là vô cùng quan trọng nhằm tránh việc bị các hãng bảo hiểm từ chối hoặc chịu sự kỳ thị của người khác trong trường hợp bị nghi ngờ nhiễm một số loại bệnh. Lãnh đạo 23andMe cam đoan các thông tin cá nhân của người dùng sẽ hoàn toàn được bảo mật và trong tầm kiểm soát của chính người sử dụng.
